Section 1

The Three Nursery Stages

Every seedling moves through three stages in order. Each stage has its own location and routine.

Seed Planting

Germination

Germinated seeds are planted with the correct depth and orientation.

Pre-Nursery

3–5 months

Young seedlings raised in trays with close daily care.

Main Nursery

7–9 months

Transplanted to larger bags and grown until ready for sale.

Section 2 • Seed Planting

Planting Technique

When planting germinated seeds, two things must be correct every time: orientation and depth.

Telling Root from Shoot

Root — longer Shoot
Radicle (root) — the longer sprout
Both sprouts grow from the same spot and look alike — the longer one is the root. When planting, point it DOWN into the soil.
Plumule (shoot) — the shorter sprout
The shorter sprout becomes the leaves. Point it UP toward the surface.

Wrong orientation slows growth or kills the seed. Always check before covering.

Planting Depth

  • Plant at the recommended shallow depth — just covered.
  • Too deep delays emergence; too shallow exposes the seed.
  • Firm the soil gently and water in after planting.
Section 3 • Pre-Nursery

Pre-Nursery Care Routine

Work to a monthly schedule — check it every month, then carry out each task at its set rate.

Section 4 • Main Nursery

Main Nursery Operations

Five routine operations keep main-nursery seedlings healthy — all guided by the monthly schedule.

All rates and frequencies follow the monthly schedule — reviewed and updated every month for:

  • Manuring / fertiliser schedule
  • Watering schedule
  • Pest & disease spraying schedule
  • Weeding schedule
  • Inter-row spray schedule

Beyond the Routine: Quality & Movement

On top of daily operations, three activities control quality and move seedlings toward sale.

Culling

Removing damaged or off-type seedlings at several checkpoints so only healthy ones continue.

Transplanting

Moving selected seedlings from pre-nursery trays into larger main-nursery bags.

Collection of Seedling

Selecting, loading and handing over seedlings to the customer at the point of sale.

Section 5 • Culling

Culling at Every Stage

Seed-Damage Culling

During seed planting

Damaged or non-viable seeds are removed as we plant.

1st Culling

Month 3–5 · before transplant

Picking is done before transplant. At the plot, workers only transplant.

2nd Culling

Month 4 · after transplant

Drone mapping identifies and counts dead palms in the main plot.

3rd Culling

At point of sale

Drone mapping is used again to count and cull when the plot is sold.

Transplanting to the Main Plot

Send soil to the empty plotSoil is delivered to the prepared empty plot.

Line up the polybagsLined out at 3 ft × 3 ft spacing between polybags.

Transplant the seedlingsSelected seedlings are transplanted into the polybags.

From Pre-Nursery
to Main Nursery

Transplanted at month 3–5

New transplants are watered twice daily for their first 2 months until they are well established.

Section 6 • Sales
Site Operation Personnel

Collection at Site

How site operation personnel run a collection once the customer arrives on site.

Step 1

Customer Arrives

Customer comes to the site for collection.

Step 2

Go to the Plot

We bring the customer to the plot to choose seedlings.

Step 3

Select with Sticker

Customer marks chosen seedlings using a sticker or seal.

Step 4

Worker Identifies

Our worker identifies the stickered / sealed seedlings.

Step 5

Load to Lorry

Selected seedlings are loaded onto the customer's lorry.

Step 6

Issue DO

On completion, our PIC issues the Delivery Order (DO).
